Physical Therapy

Blending science and creativity, your physical therapist will teach you how to manage your health condition and help motivate you during your treatment so you can function optimally and achieve long-term health benefits.

Occupational Therapy

  • Self-Care (ADL) training
  • Therapeutic exercise

Occupational therapy is used to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of those with a physical, mental or developmental condition.

Speech and Language Pathology

  • Swallowing evaluation and intervention
  • Language and communication intervention

Speech-Language Pathologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in order to help patients achieve the ability to function independently in their daily lives. At HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley our Speech-Language pathologists provide a wide range of services across the life span, from neonates to geriatrics. 

Our highly trained clinicians work to improve each patient's underlying impairments and work toward helping them make a full recovery, return to their previous level of function or to learn to work within their functional limitations. At HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley our speech therapists proudly provide a wide range of services across the life span, from neonates to geriatrics. 

Our speech therapists evaluate and treat patients with a wide range of disorders including:

  • Stroke
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Dementia
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Huntington’s Disease
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Alaryngeal patients who have had their larynx removed and require assessment and training for use of various forms of alaryngeal communication (trachea esophageal valves, esophageal speech, electro larynx)
  • Patients requiring augmentative and alternative forms of communication i.e. communication boards, speech generating devices, one way speaking valves for tracheostomized and ventilator dependent patients

Our speech-language pathologists perform state of the art instrumental testing of swallowing function called video fluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) or modified barium swallow studies (MBS). This test allows for direct visualization of the anatomy and physiology of swallowing in order to detect/prevent aspiration and determine appropriate treatment plan. Recommendations are made for diet textures, compensatory strategies, and/or postural modifications to optimize swallow safety and function.             

At HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley we focus on accommodating our patients’ busy lives, and will work with your schedule when making an appointment. Regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:30a-4:00p but we are proud to offer flexible scheduling if these hours are not suitable for you.
